Hometown Heroes

During the weekend long celebration of my birthday I went to see the Detroit Lions kick some Tampa Bay Buccaneer ass. During a TV timeout in the third quarter they brought several military personal to the end zone to honor them as Hometown Heroes. This was really cool. Then they pushed a man out in a wheelchair that was missing both legs. They announced that Sgt. Philip LaBonte would receive the Purple Heart. LaBonte, who lost his legs and an eye while fighting in Iraq, is a huge Lions Fan. His prosthetic eye has a Lions insignia on it. It was a very touching moment to see a hero receive such a prestigious award like that. I am proud to have witnessed it. Reminds you that the battle on the field isn’t important at all, the real battle is being fought by heroes like this one. What really bothers me is that it wasn’t seen on TV. It should have been.

Thank you Sgt. LaBonte.

After all the wars that this country has been through fighting for our freedom or to free another country, you would think that there would be a little more respect for the brave men and women that are volunteering to do that!

It's very sad!

It is very sad that the TV networks decide every little thing we see, and figured it wouldn't grab ratings, but this would have hit home with a lot of genuine peole here in the midwest.

Good post sack! Also, I'm a big fan of the new profile picture, it shows the real you....

I'm sure they didn't target that particular segment to not show on TV.

They never show any of the types of award presentations that go on during almost all NFL games.

Not to discount what this man has done for this country... but dude, a Lions logo in your prosthetic eye?

Now that takes commitment.

I also noticed that after the game players and staff from both teams gathered in the middle of the field for a prayer. Don't see that on TV either...
